when did christmas become all about commercialism? who in their comfy ceo leather reclining office chair decided xmas would be about fancy gifts that are bright, sparkly, and out of our price range?
christmas is this completely arbitrarily picked day in an attempt to sway the paegans into becomming christians. and now it's a world wide accepted fact. canadian-africans who are muslim give presents. Jews give presents. they don't celebrate this day, but eventually, they gave into the glitsy, glorified world of over-spending, that one day we know as christmas.
all the preperation that goes into buying, wrapping, decorating, cooking and then just the social aspect. for what? 20 hours of "enjoyment"? you sleep until 10am, see your family if they're around, have dinner, and then hang out with friends like it's an ordinary day. what's the point?
why couldn't people not buy presents, take all that money they wanted to spend, and donate it to people/countries that really need it? i don't need more soap thank-you. i have a 10 year supply from previous xmas's. take that $30 and put it into the food bank. another coffee mug? gee... thanks. take that and give it to aid in Africa.
people feel there is such a need to express xmas by giving. give your thanks for having the comp your using right now. give your thanks for the fact that you are breathing, living, are loved, can love, and have everything that you do. give your thanks and either keep your money or donate some of it next year. i'm not saying i'm an extremely joyous person, but i love the fact that i'm healthy, active and have friends. i don't need to give my best friend a mug for her to know i love her and cherish her. stupid fucking christmas and it's twisted connotations
